Christmas In the High Country: DEWEY’S BAKERY HOLIDAY STORE, Boone

2015 LOCATION UPDATE: This year, the Dewey’s Bakery store supporting Watauga High School’s band is located in the New Market Center shopping plaza, on Highway 421. It’s in the end of the mall near Joy Bistro and the movie theater. Be sure to support them again this year in their new location!

If you drive down Highway 321 in Boone this time of year, you just might see an unusual sight: A teenager in full Watauga High marching band regalia, waving a sign for “Dewey’s Bakery”. If that’s not enough to encourage you to stop in and see just what a Dewey’s is, perhaps this will make you stop in:

Rows and rows of delicious Moravian treats- thin & crispy sugar cookies in myriad flavors, famous Sugar Cakes, hot cocoa mixes, delectable peanut butter cookies, and much more- even gluten-free options!

A wonderful selection of delicious treats awaits you at Dewey's Bakery!

The Dewey’s Bakery Store is open mid November to right before Christmas, and a good chunk of proceeds go to support the Watauga High School Band Boosters. The Booster Club, according to their mission statement, is “an organization that provides positive and constructive support to Watauga High School Bands through manpower, planning, fund raising, and other beneficial means of contribution.” Funds raised at this store support the music they play in regards to music to purchase, instruments, uniforms for marching season, instrument repairs, and more.

Don’t see what you like in the store? You can have the staff help you order something special from the Dewey’s headquarters in Winston-Salem! Simply stop by the store and they can show you a catalog full of yummy treats not sold in the Boone store, such as pastries, cupcakes, cake squares, more flavors of pies & cookies, and rolls.

Even if you don’t attend Watauga High or have children or relatives who do, you likely have been impacted by the talents of the band. These talented teens have put many hours into their craft and as a result have been featured many times in the Blowing Rock and Boone Christmas Parades, providing rousing music and impeccable choreography, not to mention their performances at the Watauga High Pioneer’s football games. They are putting on two FREE concerts this month, and if you missed seeing them in this year’s parades, I would encourage you to visit one (or both!) of their concerts!

– Jazz Band Concert: Thursday, December 4th at 6:00pm, at Watauga High School
– Concert Band & Orchestra: Monday, December 15th at 6:00pm, at Watauga High School

The store is staffed entirely by volunteers, mostly parents and family of band students- with the occasional band student stopping by after classes to help out! Prices are very reasonable and different items go on sale throughout the season, making the Dewey’s Bakery Holiday Store an excellent Christmas shopping destination!
